The Cleveland Guardians, unfortunately, lost a winnable game on Saturday.
Usually, a two-run lead after five and a half innings means the Guardians will cruise through the victory, but it wasn’t the case on Saturday as they let it slip through their fingers.
The Kansas City Royals took the 4-3 affair and leveled both teams’ records to 1-1 in the young MLB season.

Paul Sewald was saddled with the loss after surrendering two runs in a fateful seventh frame, runs that represented the win for Kansas City.
A Maikel García home run and a go-ahead double by 2024 AL MVP candidate Bobby Witt Jr. were the daggers for Cleveland in this one, as their offense couldn’t solve the Royals’ late-inning relievers.
On the plus side, Steven Kwan hit his first home run of the young season and Gavin Williams enjoyed a nice start on the mound.
The big righty cruised through the first five innings, allowing a single run in 67 pitches.
He ran into some trouble in the sixth, though, allowing a hit and a walk with no outs.
Manager Steven Vogt went to his relief ace, Cade Smith, at that point.
He wasn’t at his best and one of Williams’ inherited runs came around to score to cut the Guardians’ lead to one at that point.
It was at the beginning of that inning that Gabriel Arias replaced Jose Ramirez at third base.
J-Ram left the game with what was called a ‘right wrist sprain.’
Tanner Bibee will toe the rubber against Michael Wacha in the series finale on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium, starting at 2:10 pm ET.
