The Cleveland Guardians won again on Thursday.
This time, they took the series opener against a direct foe: the Minnesota Twins.
A brilliant outing by Tanner Bibee (5.1 innings, one run, and nine strikeouts) propelled the team to an impressive 4-2 victory on the road.
The Guardians are 6-2 so far, and are tied with the 5-1 Detroit Tigers at the top of the AL Central standings.
Many fans were critical about the Guards’ lack of activity in the offseason, but the truth is that they trusted their young guys and most of them, like Tyler Freeman, Brayan Rocchio, Hunter Gaddis, and even Cade Smith, are delivering excellent results.
Cleveland has been so good that they have reached the +30 run differential threshold in just eight games.
They have done that only twice before this year.
“The 2024 Guardians become the 3rd team in CLE franchise history to earn a +30 or better run differential through 8 games. 1999: +40; 1959: +33; 2024: +30,” Cleveland Stats tweeted.

Those 1999 Guardians won 97 games and reached the Division Series, while the 1959 team didn’t reach the postseason despite winning 89 games.
The 2024 Guards are determined to show the world that solutions to specific problems and positions can also come from within, and don’t necessarily require big free-agent expenditures.
It’s still very early, but the much-criticized Guardians offense is producing many runs.
Small adjustments and their trust in young players with upside has helped change the situation for the better, and there is still more help on the way once Juan Brito, Kyle Manzardo, Jhonathan Rodriguez, Chase DeLauter, and others are ready for the majors.
The pitching remains as crisp as ever.
These Guards can go places.
