The good news for Cleveland is despite Wednesday’s 4-2 setback in Baltimore, the team took two out of three games from the powerful Orioles before heading to Kansas City.
The bad news for utility infielder Gabriel Arias is that the team is traveling west, as he enjoyed a monster series against Baltimore.
The 24-year-old Venezuela native cranked out six hits and drove in four runs in the three-game set, and the last two outings were most memorable.
The Guardians posted on social media that “Gabby is some kind of hot right now,” possibly also alluding to the heat wave that has much of the nation in its fiery grip.

The post included a clip of Arias’ solo shot Wednesday night that just stayed inside the left field foul pole.
The dinger was his third of the year and, more impressively, the sixth hit of the series in Baltimore.
Arias led Tuesday’s onslaught in the 10-8 Cleveland win by belting three hits, including a double and three driven in.
With Wednesday’s effort, his batting average climbed to a much healthier .241, a high-water mark after reaching .191 in his rookie campaign two years ago and .210 with more playing time in 2023.
Steady improvement is the hallmark of a talented young player who is well-coached, and Arias certainly shows indications that he is ready to step into a more vital role for the Guardians.
With his proven versatility and much-improved batting stroke, it is easy to foresee good days ahead for the youthful infielder.
