The Chicago White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol on Thursday after losing 22 of their last 23 games.
Their 28-89 record is abysmal, and Grifol ended up paying a high price for the team’s overall incompetence.
The White Sox announced that they will begin a search for a new long-term manager and will reveal their new skipper after the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.
Someone has to take over now as the interim manager, though.
It will be former Cleveland Guardians outfielder Grady Sizemore.
“The Chicago White Sox have named Grady Sizemore as their interim manager after firing Pedro Grifol earlier today. The team said it plans to name a permanent replacement after the regular season ends. Sizemore was a three-time All-Star with Cleveland over a 10-year career,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.

Sizemore, of course, was one of Cleveland’s best players in the 2000s.
He made three All-Star teams and won a Silver Slugger award and two Gold Gloves with Cleveland while placing in the top 12 in the AL MVP voting three times.
He was a true star in his prime, and hit .269/.357/.473 with 139 home runs, 134 stolen bases and a .830 OPS in eight seasons in Cleveland.
He worked in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization in 2023 and joined the White Sox’s coaching staff for the 2024 campaign.
He will have his first experience as a manager with Chicago and could become an option to take over permanently if he does a good job in what is left of the 2024 regular season.
It will be the chance of a lifetime for the former Guardians, as he will be managing one of Cleveland’s traditional rivals.
