The Cleveland Guardians lost one of their most promising players to some very odd circumstances.
Luis Ortiz is tangled up in a betting investigation, and MLB has extended his paid leave.
Asked about that, former Guardians player Chris Gimenez didn’t sound too optimistic about the situation.
“That was a big loss, don’t get me wrong. [Luis Ortiz’s] stuff is disgusting. Apparently, too disgusting. He’s got himself in a little bit of hot water. I don’t know anything about the situation other than what we all know. We hope nothing nefarious is going on, but it kinda looks hard to believe that at certain times, depending on who you ask,” Gimenez said, via “The BIG Factor.”

The Guardians traded for Ortiz in the offseason.
He had shown signs of solid stuff during his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he was still a work in progress.
He’s been up and down for the Guardians, alternating dominant outings with not-so-great ones.
Control was an issue, but he was very effective when he was at his best.
Now, he might not be back at all, and not only this season, with a lengthy MLB suspension possible.
The Guardians are entering the rest of the campaign with high expectations and an easier schedule, and having a strong arm like his could come in handy.
These things take time, and it doesn’t seem like there will be an early resolution to this controversy.
With that in mind, manager Stephen Vogt will have to find a way to get by without Ortiz for the foreseeable future, and maybe for the rest of the season.
Hopefully, there will be some clarity on this situation sooner rather than later.
