The Cleveland Guardians saw their impressive ten-game winning streak come to an end Sunday with a 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis.
Cleveland entered the game riding momentum that had energized fans and raised playoff expectations throughout September.
The defeat stalled their surge at a crucial point in the American League Central race.
The loss exposed the daily grind of baseball as inconsistent offense and defensive lapses slowed Cleveland’s momentum.
The Guardians had been closing ground on division leader Detroit before facing a determined Twins squad looking to finish the season strong.

Fan reaction was swift and pointed after the missed opportunity to gain ground on Detroit.
“Not the best L to take. Realistically we’re looking at being 2 back Wednesday night. Cant see the best pitcher on planet earth losing when his team needs him the most. Looked tired today. Praying a day off helps. Works suck to come this far and barely miss it in the end!” one fan noted.
Another expressed frustration with managerial decisions, saying, “Putting in Matt Festa with a rested bullpen in a 1 run game is unforgivable.”
Additional criticism also focused on reliever usage throughout the late innings.
“Vogts obsession with Festa will be the reason we don’t make the playoffs. We had a rested bullpen and he decides to put him in and the games blown. Vogt just doesn’t make big league decisions,” another fan said.
The sentiment continued with one more noting, “It’s ok, but if I see Matt Festa make an appearance in this Tigers series I’m gonna lose it.”
Cleveland built an early 2-0 lead through Steven Kwan’s leadoff home run and Bo Naylor’s sacrifice fly.
The Guardians’ starters managed to limit damage through the first five innings before the bullpen struggled.
Minnesota came alive with two decisive homers in the sixth and seventh innings, overcoming the deficit and taking control.
The Guardians remain competitive at 84-72, sitting just one game behind Detroit in the AL Central.
Cleveland now prepares for a critical three-game series against the division-leading Tigers starting Tuesday, where they can still control their playoff destiny.
