Cleveland Guardians reliever Emmanuel Clase has been baseball’s most dominant closer all year long.
He is consistently great, and the numbers, impressive as they are, don’t do justice to how nasty he looks up there in the mound.
On Sunday, the right-hander got his 38th save of the season in the Guardians victory over the Texas Rangers.
He leads the American League and is second in MLB to St. Louis Cardinals’ stopper Ryan Helsley.
That save, however, put him on the brink of entering Cleveland’s history books.
Clase’s next save will tie him for the all-time franchise lead in the category.
“With today’s save, Emmanuel Clase is now just 1 save away from tying Cody Allen for most saves in #Guardians history: Cody Allen 149, Emmanuel Clase 148, Bob Wickman 139, Doug Jones 129, Chris Perez 124,” sports anchor John Sabol tweeted.

Clase, with a clean ninth inning, brought his ERA down to an absurd 0.60.
He has allowed just four earned runs all year, in 60.1 frames.
He is as close to an automatic three quick outs as any pitcher in the league, and gives the Guardians bullpen a guaranteed star.
The fact he is just 26 years old and is already about to become the franchise leader in saves is nothing short of amazing.
There is a very good chance that Clase, within the next week or so, is in sole possession of the franchise record.
What a valuable pitcher he is.
Manager Stephen Vogt can rest easy if his team is leading a game after eight innings.
With Clase on the mound, that lead is as safe as it gets.
