The Cleveland Guardians’ offense has been an unmitigated disaster in 2025, as nobody aside from their pair of All-Stars in Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez has had a noteworthy campaign at the dish.
The offensive ineptitude is the main reason why Cleveland is a distant fourth in the American League Central and under .500 coming out of the All-Star Break, but there is hope as some of the team’s prospects are starting to look like they are ready for a promotion.
At the top of that list is outfielder Chase DeLauter, who was recently given a shoutout by Guardians Prospective on X for his impressive 34-game on-base streak in the minors.
Cleveland #Guardians updated minor league on-base streaks:
Chase DeLauter (Columbus) 34
Gustavo Baptista (DSL) 26
Robert Arias (ACL) 17
Bennett Thompson (Lynchburg) 16
Ralphy Velazquez (Lake County) 14
Alejandro Blasco (DSL) 14
Kahlil Watson (Akron) 13
Travis Bazzana (Akron) 12…— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) July 19, 2025
DeLauter was the 16th overall pick in the 2022 draft and has struggled to stay healthy since being drafted, appearing in only 138 games over the past three seasons.
The 23-year-old is Cleveland’s No. 2 prospect and the No. 33 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com, and has been playing through wrist soreness over the past few weeks, which makes the on-base streak even more impressive.
He has been out of the lineup for a few games, but should be back in the coming days to continue his streak.
If he keeps raking like he has been, he could see himself in Cleveland at some point before the end of the season to give the Guardians’ outfield a much-needed boost.
DeLauter has an .859 OPS in Triple-A Columbus this season with a 22:23 walk-to-strikeout ratio, both of which are significantly better than any outfielders in Cleveland this season aside from Kwan.
The only thing holding him back of late has been his health, so fans are all holding their breath that he can get his wrist in order and mash his way up to Cleveland in the next few weeks.
