It’s hard not to be impressed by Cleveland Guardians star rookie Travis Bazzana. He has come a long way since being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in 2024.
Yes, he was already a top prospect back then, but he has developed even further and is now one of the best players in the American League at his position, second base. Since making his MLB debut in late April, he has shown nearly every skill required to succeed in the modern game and has taken over as the Guardians’ leadoff hitter.
Cleveland sports analyst Bruce Drennan is impressed by his skills and wasn’t afraid to call him a future superstar when discussing the Guardians on Monday.
“He just looks like a ballplayer, he acts like a ballplayer. He’s got a chance to be a SUPERSTAR,” he said on his show.

Drennan is spot-on: not only does he look like a ballplayer, but he also acts like one, too. Bazzana conducts himself like a seasoned veteran: he is humble, but hungry; he praises his teammates, and he wants to win every day.
Remember, this is a guy who has a little over a month in the majors. He still has a lot to learn, but if he keeps his current career trajectory, he could be, indeed, a superstar.
The lefty hitter is slashing a cool .294/.389/.450, leading the Guardians in several rate stats such as OBP, slugging percentage, OPS, and wRC+, with an incredible 139.
In addition to the aforementioned metrics and stats, he has contributed three home runs, eight stolen bases, and a whopping eight doubles. There’s a chance that, as he matures and learns more about MLB pitching, some of those doubles turn into home runs. Even if that doesn’t happen, he is already a rock-solid offensive player who can walk, hit, find the gaps and the seats, and steal bases.
So far, it’s safe to say that Bazzana has lived up to the hype of a No. 1 pick, and has single-handedly elevated the Guardians’ offensive ceiling. It’s scary to think that he hasn’t hit his ceiling yet.
