The Cleveland Guardians have a well-established group of middle infielders to build around for years to come.
Among them is the surging Brayan Rocchio.
He secured a starting spot at the beginning of the season, but was demoted back to Triple-A after a slow start.
That stint with Columbus helped him rebuild his confidence, and he’s been a welcome reinforcement in the past month.
However, baseball isn’t the only thing on his mind.
He’s also an avid dog lover, up to the point where he recently admitted that he wants to do something to help them once his playing days are over.
“I love dogs,” Rocchio said. “God willing, whenever I have finished my career, and it’s an accomplished career, I will look forward to making a dog foundation, something to help dogs.”
Rocchio has yet to earn a huge payday in the majors, and, given the way the Guardians usually deal with that, chances are that might not be the case for as long as he’s with Cleveland.
But if he continues his ascending trajectory, it won’t be long before another team may give him the type of life-changing money that would allow him to fulfill that dream of giving back.
In the meantime, he will have his focus on the field.
The Guardians are entering a crucial stretch of 17 games in as many days.
As such, they will need everybody on the same page and pushing for the same goal.
