The Cleveland Guardians got a big win over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night.
Luis L. Ortiz had a strong outing, bouncing back to give the team a solid 6.1 innings after a subpar performance his last time out.
Then again, it was catcher Bo Naylor who stole the show.
Naylor connected on a 95.5 mph fastball in the seventh inning for a three-run homer off Brock Stewart to give his team a lead.
He didn’t even need to watch the ball’s trajectory to realize it was an absolute moonshot.
Following the win, he had just one word to describe his homer:
Asked how it feels to take a swing like that, Naylor said, “To put it in one word — beautiful.”
Notably, this marked the second consecutive game that he’s hit a home run, as he also had a solo homer in the third inning of Tuesday’s 2-1 win.
This is an encouraging sign, as his numbers hadn’t been that impressive.
In 21 appearances this season, he had logged a .191/.282/.397 slash line.
Naylor has been hitting the ball hard, and he’s been much more disciplined at the plate this season.
Stewart threw him three straight four-seamers, and he made contact with all of them.
Then, he took one for a ball, had another foul, and didn’t go for a changeup down and inside to get a 2-2 count.
It was then that Stewart gift-wrapped him a fastball right over the middle of the plate, and the rest is history.
The Guardians will now look to keep the momentum going with Ben Lively at the mound for Game 3 of the series.
