On Saturday, the Cleveland Guardians lost game five of the American League Championship Series to the New York Yankees by a score of five to two.
The loss officially eliminated the Guardians from the 2024 postseason, and the Yankees have advanced to the World Series.
Many emotions are presumably being felt by the Guardians’ players, but catcher Austin Hedges sent an emotional message to the city of Cleveland following the loss on Saturday.
“I’m Proud to be a Cleveland guy. I love this city, I love the fans, I love this organization.” Hedges said.

Overall, the season was a success for the Guardians as only four teams can say they made it to the Championship Series.
The Guardians were looking to appear in their first World Series since 2016 when they lost to the Chicago Cubs in seven games.
Hedges explains that he loves everything about the Guardians’ organization and describes how they value people more than players.
The Guardians were unable to tame the Yankees’ bats in the American League Championship Series, and specifically Giancarlo Stanton.
In the five games of the series, Stanton had four hits in 18 at-bats, but all four of the hits were home runs.
The Guardians appeared to lack a solid ace in their starting rotation after Shane Bieber was injured and it was announced he would miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
It will be interesting to see if the Guardians try to address this in the offseason and add another quality starting pitcher to their rotation ahead of the 2025 season.
