The Cleveland Guardians are still in the mix for a playoff spot.
It takes a team effort to do that.
However, everybody can agree that the Guardians are Jose Ramirez’s team, and that will continue to be the case for as long as he’s here.
Despite not being the most outspoken or popular superstar in the game, Ramirez is definitely one of the best players in baseball.
Yet, that’s not what impresses Austin Hedges the most.
Asked about his All-Star teammate, the veteran catcher gushed about the third baseman’s ability to lock in when he’s at the plate, transforming from a friendly and easy-going guy.
“He’s the No. 1 most impressive at flipping a switch, to go from pure silliness to absolute killer,” Hedges said. “That part makes me laugh. Like, I just watched you be the silliest person of all time and then just put together the most incredible at-bat I’ve ever seen.”
Ramirez locks in at the plate like few players can.
He covers the strike zone, and hits for power or contact.
He’s also ready whenever he gets an inch of space to take off and steal bases.
It’s crazy to think that Ramirez looked like a possible bust early in his career.
After a brief stint in the minors, he got his legs under him, and he never looked back.
Fast forward to today, and he might go down as the greatest player in franchise history.
He has shown no signs of slowing down, and at 33 years old, retirement is still far away in the future.
