The Cleveland Guardians finally saw their offense wake up on Wednesday afternoon in a 9-4 win over the Texas Rangers. It was the first time they have scored more than six runs in a game in nearly two weeks and put an end to a two-game mini skid and helped shave a game off the Chicago White Sox’s AL Central lead in the process.
One exciting development from the game was the struggling Steven Kwan coming off the bench to hit a triple and join in on the offensive fun. Kwan hasn’t been himself for over a year now and has been one of the worst hitters in baseball thus far in 2026, but Mason Horodyski shared a quirky little stat about that triple that proved to be quite interesting.
After Kwan’s pinch-hit triple, Horodyski revealed that it was only Kwan’s second career pinch hit. Coincidentally, both hits have been triples.
“Leadoff pinch hit triple for Steven Kwan to start the inning. He’s had 2 hits as a pinch hitter in his career, both triples,” said Horodyski.

Hopefully for Cleveland’s sake, this is the hit that gets Kwan going, because it has been deeply concerning how unproductive he has been at the dish for quite some time now. Stephen Vogt has understandably dropped him to ninth in the lineup even behind notoriously bad hitters such as Austin Hedges and Patrick Bailey.
Chase DeLauter’s emergence has been a silver lining among a disappointing outfield. Angel Martinez took a huge step forward but is now on the IL, and Cleveland has had to rely on guys like Petey Halpin and Stuart Fairchild because Kwan, George Valera, CJ Kayfus, and David Fry haven’t been able to produce consistently.
Hopefully Kwan has a lot more triples in him over the second half of the season, because it’s tough seeing him posting a sub-.600 OPS. He is too good to be hitting like this and he will need to be heard from to help this team win the AL Central again.
