The Cleveland Guardians entered this season with some major concerns about their offense.
Fast forward to today, and things haven’t changed much.
If anything, their performances have only confirmed what most people initially thought: This team cannot hit.
That’s why Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report is worried about them.
In his latest column, he called out the team for its lack of offensive production, especially in the outfield:
“The Guardians are extremely reliant on Ramírez, Kwan and a 39-year-old Carlos Santana to carry their offense. Specifically, they’re getting almost no production in either center or right field,” Kelly wrote.
That’s not much of a secret.
Jhonkensy Noel has failed to live up to the expectations, and it’s hard to justify him still being in the majors at this point.
Granted, all three of their stars have been superb this season, but they can only do so much if the rest of the lineup doesn’t give them much of a helping hand.
Even so, all in all, this team has found ways to win games they were supposed to lose, and that speaks volumes about Stephen Vogt’s work.
Still, they can’t bank all their hopes on Kwan, Ramirez, and Santana.
The trade deadline is looming large, and this team has yet to decide whether it will be buyers or sellers.
They could still call up Chase DeLauter, C.J. Kayfus, and even Travis Bazzana at some point in the season.
Then again, putting all their hopes in rookies might not be the wisest decision.
The Guardians are still in the mix for a playoff berth, but they will need someone to step up or to acquire some firepower at the trade deadline.
