The Cleveland Guardians have a successful history of developing players in the minor leagues. This season, they are about to find out how good their farm system actually is.
At least five rookies are expected to have big roles for the Guardians in 2026, including two who are about to make their long-awaited regular-season MLB debuts. How well that young talent fares will determine if Cleveland will get back to the playoffs for a third year in a row.
Fortunately, the outlook bodes well, as analyst Carlos Collazo has high praise for the Guardians’ farm system, saying it has a “great variety” of players.
“I think it’s one of the better systems in the game. It’s very well-rounded. It is not super slanted towards hitters or pitchers; there’s a good collection of both. There’s a great combination of near-proximity players who you would expect to help the team out as soon as 2026. I think you also see a greater diversity of offensive profiles in this system than you have in the past. I think there’s just a great variety of profile, there’s balance, there’s depth,” Collazo said.

Four young players – Chase DeLauter, Travis Bazzana, George Valera and C.J. Kayfus – are projected to be in Cleveland’s Opening Day lineup. In addition, Parker Messick is in line to hold a spot in the starting rotation.
Among them, DeLauter may have the highest ceiling. Though his 2025 season was disrupted by injuries, the outfielder became one of the few players in history to make his MLB debut in a postseason game after he was promoted to the playoff roster for the AL Wild Card series against the Detroit Tigers.
Bazzana, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, also has had his development delayed by injuries. However, the second baseman is in line to make his debut this season, as he has focused on improving his game to make that happen.
Valera and Kayfus were called up late last season as the Guardians looked to add some punch to a lagging offense. They helped Cleveland overcome the largest deficit to ever win an MLB division.
Messick played a big role in that as well. He contributed impressive starts after manager Stephen Vogt decided to use a six-man rotation.
Those players are not alone, however, as others, in particular power hitters Ralphy Velazquez and Jace Laviolette, are working their way through the system and will someday join their fellow prospects with the Guardians.
