The Cleveland Guardians have lost seven games in a row.
They are now five games below .500 and their postseason hopes are starting to collapse.
The belief is that pitcher Shane Bieber can come back within the next few weeks, and the team can call up hitting prospects Chase DeLauter and C.J. Kayfus to become more competitive, but it won’t matter if they are far below .500 come the trade deadline.
Right now, the team is in a delicate spot: too mediocre to be active buyers and sacrifice important prospects for upgrades, but too talented to just assume they will sell before the end of the month.
The debate on “The Carlos Baerga Show” was hot, as the hosts discussed whether the organization will buy or sell.
Co-host Gabb Goudy doesn’t think there will be any major moves either way.
“I don’t see them making any large trades or moves or anything crazy,” Goudy said.

In reality, whether they buy or sell, it’s hard to see the Guardians making any earth-shattering moves.
If they buy, they won’t be trading Travis Bazzana, DeLauter or Kayfus for an All-Star caliber right fielder, for example.
If they sell, they will probably dangle some of their soon-to-be free agents, such as Lane Thomas, or a few relievers.
They won’t trade Tanner Bibee or Gavin Williams.
In any case, if they decide to acquire win-now talent, it’s unlikely they will go for the big move and bring in Luis Robert Jr., Cedric Mullins or Taylor Ward, even though they probably should.
The most likely scenario involves Cleveland keeping its top young players and prospects with a 2026 run in mind, without fully throwing in the towel on 2025.
