Not so long ago, the Cleveland Guardians were in the ALCS.
Fast forward to today, and they might not even make the playoffs.
It’s uncommon to see a team fall from grace overnight, but this isn’t that surprising.
Plenty of people expressed concerns and doubts once the Guardians chose to trade away Josh Naylor this offseason, especially considering that he wasn’t going to make that much money.
Now, the Guardians’ offensive struggles have become too much to overcome, and it looks like everybody else in baseball has caught up to Stephen Vogt’s team.
With that in mind, analyst Danny Cunningham recently called out the organization.
“It’s actually impressive how the reluctance of the Guardians front office to put the best team on the field has destroyed a season by the first week of July,” Cunningham wrote on X.

Despite their struggles, the Guardians can still make and go far in the playoffs.
That will most likely require that they make some moves before the trade deadline.
Yet, judging by the usual ways and recent history of the front office, that’s not likely to be on the table.
If anything, the Guardians might be looking to offload more money, even if that means parting with some of the few proven veterans they have.
Even though some claimed the Guardians overachieved last season and shouldn’t have gotten as far as they did, not even the most pessimistic fan saw this debacle coming.
Though there’s still time to turn things around, fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up about that.
