The Cleveland Guardians’ rotation is good, but not near the best in the league.
The unit lost a lot when Shane Bieber went down with an elbow injury and was lost for the season.
As of Wednesday morning, Cleveland’s rotation is 18th in MLB with a 4.31 ERA, and dead last in WAR with 1.7.
Logan Allen has encountered some issues as of late, and Carlos Carrasco and Xzavion Curry haven’t been the most reliable either.
The Guardians need Gavin Williams, who suffered an elbow injury in spring training, to return to active duty as soon as possible.
Thankfully, he had a positive night on Tuesday.
“Cleveland #Guardians RHP Gavin Williams struckout five in his 2nd rehab start for Columbus. Williams cruised through the first two innings before running into trouble in the third. He topped out at 98.1 mph. Line – 2.1(IP) 3H 3R 3ER 2BB 5SO (46 Pitches 29 Strikes),” Guardians Prospective tweeted.

Despite the rather mediocre final line (three earned runs in 2.1 innings is not exactly what you are looking for results-wise), it was a positive day for Williams because he pushed through his limits, he increased his pitch count, and he touched 98.1 mph on the radar gun.
The idea is for him to be able to keep up his stamina for a bit longer in the game as he gets his arm strength fully back.
Williams is closing in on a return to the rotation, and that is fantastic news for a Guardians team that is in first place despite the recent rotation woes.
Given the fact he proved himself last year with a 3.29 ERA in 82 innings as a rookie, he would be a welcome addition to the staff.
