The Cleveland Guardians lost one of their best players at the trade deadline.
However, they got a true gem in return, so it softened the blow of parting with ace Shane Bieber.
Analyst Matt Fontana recently gushed about the trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.
“The kid they got back, Khal Stephen — that guy is already our No. 1 pitching prospect. I’m all right at the deadline,” Fontana said.

"I don't want to say it's a Kluber for Clase situation, but that guy is already our No. 1 pitching prospect."

Bieber may have given the Guardians a big boost the rest of the season, and especially in the postseason.
Then again, he hadn’t played this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so it’s not like this changed anything for the team in the present.
More importantly, Bieber looked like a lock to leave as a free agent this coming offseason.
He was most likely going to decline his player option and pursue a more lucrative deal or a better shot at winning a World Series.
The Guardians could’ve chosen to hold on to him and then get a compensatory draft pick.
That’s why the Blue Jays had to get creative and make the Guardians an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Stephen is one of the prime pitching prospects in the game, and while it may take a while before he’s ready to make his MLB debut, he’s arguably more valuable than any player the Guardians could’ve gotten with that compensatory selection.
The Guardians usually draw a lot of heat for moving on from their stars once they get too expensive.
But in this particular scenario, they look like the winners of this transaction, and fans should be excited.
