With the 2026 season complete, thoughts for the Cleveland Guardians have turned to 2027 and beyond. Fortunately, the franchise has a lot to look forward to, based on its successful development system.
That extends beyond the typical minor league pipeline into other avenues. One such player made quite an impression this year and could be in line for a bright future,
Young Guardians pitcher Jhordari Jimenez is already nearing 100 mph, and the teenager has put that fastball to use with some impressive strikeout totals.
“Cleveland Guardians 18-year-old RHP prospect Jhordari Jimenez struck out 32 batters over 35.0 innings during the 2026 season in the Dominican Summer League. Jimenez, blessed with a big arm, was consistently topping out in the upper 90s with his fastball nearing triple digits,” Guardians Prospective posted.

Jimenez was signed as an international free agent in January 2025. He turned 18 on June 25 of this year.
With Goryl of the DSL, Jimenez debuted in 2025 with seven relief appearances. In 6.2 innings, he allowed eight hits, 11 walks, and 11 runs with just six strikeouts, showing that he had a lot to work on.
Fortunately, he was able to harness his talent somewhat while making 11 starts in 2026. In 35.0 innings, he gave up 25 hits, 30 walks, and 27 runs with 30 strikeouts. He lowered his H/9 rate from 10.80 to 6.43 and his BB/9 rate from 14.85 to 7.71.
Cleveland also has a number of top pitching prospects much closer to the major leagues. According to MLB.com, right-hander Braylon Doughty is Cleveland’s No. 2 overall prospect, behind only first baseman Ralphy Velazquez. Other highly rated pitchers are righties Liam Peterson (No. 6), Justin Campbell (No. 9), Khal Stephen (No. 11), and Joey Oakie (No. 13).
Five pitchers made their MLB debut for the Guardians this season. They were righties Peyton Pallette, Franco Aleman, Daniel Espino, and Austin Peterson, and lefty Will Dion.
Cleveland is likely to bring back all of its most-used starters from last season, while trying to decide whether to re-sign free agent Foster Griffin, who was acquired at the trade deadline. Its bullpen may need some tinkering but is likely to remain mostly intact.
Making that staff is the goal for Jimenez someday, and it will be interesting to watch his progress over the next few years as he works his way through the very productive Guardians process.
