Stephen Vogt will not extend his streak of AL Manager of the Year Awards after he was not named one of the 2026 finalists, which was a decision that did raise some eyebrows. Vogt was given the honor after leading the Cleveland Guardians to AL Central titles in 2024 and 2025.
Vogt may be the victim of his own success, as even though the Guardians rallied for another division crown, he is not included this time around. However, with back-to-back victories in his trophy case, he has helped Cleveland make some history.
The Guardians own an MLB record that most fans don’t know about, as their six Manager of the Year Awards are the most all time.
“Cleveland has won six Manager of the Year awards, more than any other franchise, and Stephen Vogt won it in both 2024 and 2025. The White Sox are next with five. The Yankees have only three, and the last one came in 1998,” Baseball’s Greatest Moments posted.

After this year’s winner is announced on Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox are likely to be tied with Cleveland atop the list. White Sox manager Will Venable is considered a clear favorite over fellow finalists Chad Tracy of the Boston Red Sox and Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Venable is deserving of the regular-season honor after helping the White Sox reach the playoffs following three straight seasons with at least 100 losses. However, it should be noted that Chicago had a six-game lead over Cleveland in the division in August, but Vogt and the Guardians were able to surpass the White Sox down the stretch.
Vogt was the successor in Cleveland to Terry Francona, who won AL Manager of the Year for the franchise three times, in 2013, 2016, and 2022. Eric Wedge also won for Cleveland in 2007.
Interestingly, all of Cleveland’s honorees have come after Chicago’s most recent winner, which means the White Sox once held a 5-0 lead over it in that regard. Tony La Russa won in the first year the award was bestowed, in 1983, and Ozzie Guillen was their most recent winner, in 2005.
There were some rumors that Vogt might leave the Guardians this offseason, but he will be back to take another run at Manager of the Year in 2027.
