When April ended, people were talking about how Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez had been good, but not great, in the early going of the 2025 season.
Some even wondered if his days as an elite contributor were over.
This was after just one month, as hard to believe as that might sound.
Ramirez slashed .264/.317/.453 with a .769 OPS and a 111 wRC+ in March/April.
The numbers don’t lie, and that is good, but not great, offensive production.
People can point out that those stats weren’t on par with the talent and track record of Ramirez.
What they shouldn’t do, however, is doubt a proven star in his prime.
Fortunately, time puts everything in its place.
Ramirez was a monster in May, and he is back to his very best.
“Jose is on an absolute tear. .386/.451/.634 with eight doubles and five homers in May, 11 RBI and eight steals. Player of the Month territory. He’s on about an extended heater as we’ve seen from him in quite some time,” Justin Lada wrote on X.

Ramirez is now rocking a 161 wRC+, thanks to a 207 wRC+ in May.
That 161 wRC+ would be his best mark since the pandemic year of 2020 and his career-high over a full season.
He is back to his top form, slashing .327/.384/.555 with 11 home runs and 14 stolen bases.
He is again shaping up as a bona fide MVP candidate in the American League.
