It’s been a while since the Cleveland Guardians had one of their best hitters at the dish.
The crowd at Progressive Field went absolutely crazy once they heard “Loud and Heavy” by Cody Jinks play over the loudspeaker, as they knew what was coming.
Fry took his first at-bat of the season in the eighth inning of the series-clinching 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
And while he struck out, manager Stephen Vogt was just happy to have him back out there.
Following the win, Vogt gushed about Fry’s importance in the clubhouse:
“It’s just good to see David Fry back on a baseball field,” Vogt said. “You never know what things are going to happen when you have surgery. There’s no guarantees. So to see him back healthy, being able to help us, it’s a huge lift for all of us.”
Fry rejoined the Guardians after a lengthy stay on the Injured List (IL).
He had to undergo reconstructive elbow surgery late in 2024, and it was a long way back to the plate.
Unfortunately, given the nature and extent of the injury, we won’t see him play the field this season, and he will only be out there to handle designated hitter and pinch-hitting duties.
Even so, having him back will provide a huge boost for a team in desperate need of any sort of offensive punch.
The Guardians have struggled against lefties all year long, and Fry has always been known for his prowess against southpaws.
Also, he’s a well-known postseason performer, not to mention a fan favorite, and it shouldn’t be long before he’s back in the lineup.
