The Cleveland Guardians lost the series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
However, they were able to win the weekend games and take the three-game set.
Those were two much-needed wins because they helped Cleveland maintain the top spot in an important ranking: the Wild Card.
Right now, at 32-26, they are second in the AL Central and six games behind the leaders, the Detroit Tigers.
However, Cleveland is in the top spot for the American League Wild Card.
“104 games to play… Guardians own the top Wildcard spot in the American League. Cleveland’s difficult schedule resumes Tuesday night in The Bronx, 3 with the Yankees followed by 3 with the Astros,” Nick Camino posted on X.

The schedule is getting harder for the Guardians, but they keep pushing forward anyway.
If the season ended today, they would be in the postseason as the first-ranked Wild Card team, which is no small thing.
The season doesn’t end today, though, so they have to keep fighting and beating solid teams, like the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros, to keep cementing their spot.
And while the Guardians have recently lost some players due to injury, they just recovered one of their 2024 All-Stars, David Fry, and Shane Bieber could potentially be back later this month or in early July.
If Cleveland manages to hold on in the upcoming weeks, they will get a boost when Bieber is ready to come back to the staff and that’s huge.
The 2025 campaign hasn’t been a smooth ride, but so far, Cleveland fans have a right to dream big.
