In need of an offensive spark in the midst of a 3-game losing streak, the Cleveland Guardians got one from the unlikely source of Jhonkensy Noel on Saturday as the 22-year-old outfielder slugged a 2-run homer to get the offense going and lead the team to a 7-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Noel only has nine at-bats under his belt so far since making his MLB debut on Wednesday, but he is off to a great start and opened up about his performance after yesterday’s win.
When asked how he has been able to settle in and be the guy he has been in the minor leagues, Noel said he is keeping the same approach and added “I mean, you know, I got power” in reference to his 115.4 mph home run that gave the team the lead in the 4th inning.
"I mean, you know, I got power."

Noel was called up as Will Brennan hit the injured list and has hit two home runs already, which is in line with the dominant display he put up in the minors this year at Triple-A Columbus.
In 65 games in Columbus, Noel hit 18 home runs and drove in 59 runs while taking big steps forward this year with a .295 average, up from the .220 he hit last season.
Noel’s power is legitimate and is certain to earn him plenty more at-bats for the time being, and if he keeps this up he will be a tough guy to take out of the lineup when Brennan comes back.
Gotta love Big Christmas.
