All is well in Cleveland so far this season as the Guardians continue to roll and lead the AL Central by 4.5 games with a dominant 42-22 record, and along the way, the team continues to find new ways to win and discover new contributors who rapidly become vital members of the ballclub.
One rookie has been a revelation since joining the big leagues of late and is quickly stamping his name alongside some of the best rookies in franchise history.
Daniel Schneemann has put himself in impressive company by posting a .550+ on-base percentage over his first six games, something only three other players in franchise history have ever done including Riggs Stephenson in 1921, Gordy Coleman in 1959, and Steven Kwan two years ago.
The only CLE hitters with a .550+ OBP in their first 6 career MLB games (min. 15PA) are:
• 2024 DANIEL SCHNEEMANN (.556 OBP, 18PA)
• 2022 Steven Kwan (.655 OBP, 29PA)
• 1959 Gordy Coleman (.563 OBP, 16PA)
• 1921 Riggs Stephenson (.600 OBP, 27PA)#ForTheLand | @CleGuardians pic.twitter.com/awbHL1UItB— Luke Potosky (@LukePotosky) June 10, 2024
All of a sudden, manager Stephen Vogt has another player he has to do whatever he can to find at-bats for, which is a nice problem to have.
The 27-year-old rookie is 5-for-13 so far with five walks, two RBI, a double, and a triple in six games.
His OPS took a dip to 1.171 in their last game on Sunday as he went 0-for-2 to end his five-game hitting streak to begin his career.
This organization places a lot of value on defensive versatility, which is how guys like Tyler Freeman and David Fry have found their way on the field so consistently this season, and Schneemann has this in spades.
Schneemann’s versatility should make Vogt’s life easier, so fans should expect to see a lot more of this guy.
