Outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez was part of a youth revolution going on in Cleveland in 2024.
The Cleveland Guardians called him up in late-May after some really impressive numbers in Triple-A.
Rodriguez, unfortunately, was unable to stick around in MLB and was sent back to Columbus in early-June.
In eight games with the Guards, he hit .130/.286/.174 with a 50 wRC+ in 28 plate appearances.
He is currently in Triple-A, but he knows that a strong showing there could earn him another call-up in the short term.
He is doing his job just fine for the Clippers, and that job is to hit.
“#Guardians No. 16 prospect Johnathan Rodriguez hit .483 with four home runs and led all Minor Leaguers with 16 RBIs and 30 total bases for @CLBClippers,” Minor League Baseball’s official account tweeted.

Those numbers were highlighted because the Guards’ own J-Rod won the International League Player of the Week award.
Between 2023 and 2024, Rodriguez has accumulated 96 games of experience in Triple-A, and it’s likely he has nothing left to prove there.
He is patiently waiting for his spot in the majors while he rakes in the International League, where he has a .308/.406/.541 line and 11 home runs this year.
At this point, the Guardians need to challenge him with MLB at-bats.
He needs to struggle against the best pitchers in the world and then get a chance to adjust and perform as expected.
He probably won’t be a star, but there could be 30 homers per season in J-Rod’s future if he maximizes his contact skills.
Cleveland just needs to be patient.
