It’s now getting to mid-September when every game matters more than ever. The Cleveland Guardians have made a late-season push and could have a chance to take over first place before the season is over. It might not feel like it for Guardians fans, but this team isn’t actually too far away from being at the top of the AL Central.
Sports anchor Nick Camino posted how close the Guardians are to winning a third-straight division title.
“With 15 games to play, the Guardians are currently a playoff team via the wild card. However, Cleveland has its eyes on winning a third-straight AL Central Division title,” Camino wrote.

Somehow, the Guardians have surged back into this race and are only 1.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox for first place. Entering Friday’s game, the Guardians are only one game over .500 with a 74-73 record on the year. Luckily for Cleveland, the AL Central has played below expectations, so a .500 record is almost first place.
The Guardians are set to begin a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins starting on Friday. After that, Cleveland heads home for a huge three-game set against the White Sox. The next six games are going to play a huge role in who is going to win the AL Central division.
The improvements made by the front office at the trade deadline are playing a significant role in the Guardians’ second-half surge. The deadline additions of Jo Adell, Nathaniel Lowe, and Foster Griffin have helped bring Cleveland closer to first place over the last month or so.
The pitching staff has carried this Guardians team throughout most of the season, but the offense is finally coming around. It’s nice to see the bats actually giving the Guardians some run support. This Guardians team has all the pieces to be a threat in October.
Now with 15 games left, the Guardians control their own destiny to make the postseason.
