Red-hot outfielder Jo Adell hit a three-run home run and accounted for most of the Cleveland Guardians’ offense, as they beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Saturday night. It was their third straight win and fifth in their last seven games. Suddenly, after struggling for most of the second half to this point, Cleveland has feasted on weak NL West teams and has brought their record back up to 64-66.
Tanner Bibee delivered a quality start to lift the Guardians to victory. He tossed six innings and allowed just two runs on five hits and one walk, striking out six and dropping his ERA to 3.97.

Cleveland’s offense was silent for the first three frames, but broke out in the fourth. Chase DeLauter worked a leadoff walk, and Jose Ramirez singled to put two men on with no outs. Adell then belted his fourth homer as a Guardian and 20th of the year.

In the bottom part of the inning, Troy Johnston hit a run-scoring double for the home club, driving in Willi Castro to make it a 3-1 game.
Mickey Moniak hit a solo blast off Bibee to cut the Guardians’ lead to just one run in the fifth. However, Cleveland restored that two-run lead in the top of the sixth thanks to Patrick Bailey’s RBI single, plating Adell.
The Rockies made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, when Connor Norby greeted Guardians closer Cade Smith with a solo blast. It was 4-3 Cleveland after Colorado’s long homer, but Smith hung on and got his 33rd save of the year.
Erik Sabrowski and Hunter Gaddis took the lead safely to Smith, with a scoreless inning each. Besides Adell’s excellent night at the plate, Ramirez and DeLauter scored a run each, and Bailey had a key RBI.
The series will continue on Sunday at 3:10 pm ET. The Guardians will go for a sweep for the first time since July 10-12, just before the All-Star break, when they won three straight against the Miami Marlins. Foster Griffin will take the hill for Cleveland, and Tomoyuki Sugano will tow the rubber for the Rockies.
