The Cleveland Guardians are known for having some of the best high-level prospects in baseball. Their recent successful draft history has paid off with the arrival of Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana in the big leagues, with several more talented young players in their farm system.
Cleveland has tremendous depth throughout its organization. Even though a minor league player may not be as highly touted as some of his teammates, there is always a chance for them to make their mark.
According to Chase Ford, the Guardians are promoting promising infield prospect Luke Hill to Double-A after a strong start to the season at Single-A+.
“The Cleveland Guardians are promoting INF Luke Hill to Akron (Double-A). Hill had a .274 batting average with 19 extra-base hits and 37 RBIs for the Lake County Captains,” Ford posted.

Heading into the season, Hill was ranked as Cleveland’s No. 30 overall prospect by MLB.com. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, so his quick promotion in his first full professional season is a notable achievement.
Hill was very impressive in his pro debut last season, posting a slash line of .347/.459/.510 and seven stolen bases in 15 games for Hill City. This season, in 38 games for Lake County, he’s at .274/.436/.597, giving him a 1.033 OPS. He has 19 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs, among his total of 34 hits.
Hill has primarily been playing third base for Lake County, but he has also spent time at second base. MLB.com speculates that he could also play first base or a corner outfield position as his career moves along.
He was named Midwest League Player of the Week in mid-May, an honor that was later given to teammate Jace LaViolette. The outfielder was Cleveland’s first-round pick in the 2025 draft and is ranked as the organization’s No. 7 overall prospect.
Earlier this month, Cleveland promoted No. 2 overall prospect Angel Genao, a shortstop, and No. 3 prospect Ralphy Velazquez, a first baseman/outfielder, to Triple-A. It shows that the organization will not hesitate if it believes its players are ready for the next challenge.
That philosophy has kept the Guardians among the most competitive teams in the game, and it is paying off again this season.
