To say that the Cleveland Guardians’ 2025 season was a rollercoaster would be somewhat of an understatement. We’re talking about a team that won just nine games in a month yet still ended up winning the division. That’s why, even though their overall record was somewhat disappointing, they also deserve some credit for what they did.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report analyst Kerry Miller gave the team a ‘B’ grade for the campaign:
“Cleveland Guardians (Grade: B),” Miller wrote. “While the overall grade is merely a B, what Cleveland did this season—rallying from a 15.5‑game deficit in early July to author a 74‑game surge—was the stuff of legend and won’t soon be forgotten. Of course, the first 88 games were wildly disappointing, and in the quest to prevent a similar start in 2026, they’ve thus far invested less than $8 million in a trio of relievers.”
That makes perfect sense. It’s impossible to say that this team didn’t fare well last season, considering that they made the playoffs and made MLB history to snatch the AL Central divisional pennant from the Detroit Tigers’ hands.
Of course, that’s not to say that everything went how it should’ve gone. They made life difficult on themselves with their lack of moves and offensive upgrades throughout the course of the season, and that might be the case again in 2026.
Granted, they have some promising young players who have already shown their potential last season. Then again, banking all of their hopes on youngsters to get the job done at the next level right out of the gate is a risky gamble.
The Guardians have always operated in the same way, and they’re not going to change their approach overnight. Still, it’s not like they need to spend millions to solve their offensive woes.
So far, watching them stay put and not improve their offense in the slightest is as disappointing as it is worrisome.
