The Cleveland Guardians have a big need for help in the outfield. They have some promising youngsters, but there are no guarantees that they will be ready to make an impact right out of the gate. That’s why it’s so refreshing to know that Nolan Jones is putting in the work in the offseason.
As shown by Driveline Baseball on X, Jones is working on his swing:
“Guardians OF [Nolan Jones] getting after it this offseason alongside [Tanner Stokey and Elijah Boyer],” Driveline Baseball posted on X.

Jones will most likely be out there for depth and as one of the first players off the bench. That being said, he can make his way to the field if he improves his offensive numbers and any of the rookies struggle.
Also, as promising as Chase DeLauter is, he has struggled to stay on the field for most of his career, so the team can never have too much depth there. Hopefully that won’t be the case, but Stephen Vogt has always taken a next-man-up approach.
Nolan Jones clearly isn’t the type of slugger this team covets right now, but it’s still way too early to give up on him. We’ve seen multiple players come back much better after a tough offseason, and he might be the next on that list. The Guardians can’t keep banking on their bullpen and timely hitting to get the job done and make the playoffs.
And since the front office seems reluctant to make signings or trades to help their offense, it looks like the reinforcements will have to come from inside the building.
