The Cleveland Guardians have more than enough talent in their ranks right now. They have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball, and that shouldn’t change any time soon.
Now, with another year of experience under their belts and potentially making the roster from day one, some of the team’s best prospects will stop being prospects. As such, it’ll be interesting to see who gets the nod as the best prospect in the organization. With that in mind, MLB analyst Sam Dykstra dug deep into the depth charts to figure out the Guardians’ No. 1 guy in 2027.
Notably, he chose Angel Genao:
“Angel Genao, SS,” Dykstra wrote. “Now on the 40-man roster, Genao was limited by a right shoulder strain in 2025. A healthier year could make him more productive as a switch-hitter and send him higher up prospect lists.”
Genao has the potential to be the team’s long-term solution at shortstop and their biggest star at the position since they traded Francisco Lindor. He’s a solid switch-hitter and an above-average defender, not to mention an elite athlete.
Former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana will most likely get the nod at some point in the season, and he should become the team’s primary second baseman in no time. Genao will probably need a little more time, but he could join him in the middle of the infield sooner rather than later. Despite a logjam there, the Guardians should be all set at those positions for many years to come.
Of course, that will make Juan Brito, Brayan Rocchio, and Gabriel Arias potential trade candidates, but that’s a good problem to have, and it’s a bridge the Guardians will only cross once they get there.
