The Cleveland Guardians haven’t gotten that much production from Bo Naylor. As a former first-round selection, expectations were sky-high for the young catcher.
However, he did show some signs of improvement in the second half of the season. He’s clearly made big strides since he made his pro debut three years ago, and it’s always positive to watch players in an ascending trajectory. As pointed out by Guardians Prospective on X, he closed out the season on a high note.
Clearly, making some adjustments at the plate was just what he needed to finally get something going on offense:
“Final 19 games of the 2025 season after making an adjustment at the plate late in the season. 18-62 10R 7(2B) 3HR 16RBI 4BB. AVG .290. OBP .324. SLG .548. OPS .872,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt recently claimed that he expected a breakout season from the 25-year-old next season. He gave him the nod as the most improved player in the upcoming campaign.
That will certainly be a welcome turn of events for a player who posted an OPS+ of just 82 last season, so it’s not like the bar is high at all. There was even some chatter about whether the Guardians should turn to Austin Hedges, who’s never been a factor at the plate but is an elite defender and game caller.
Naylor should also be aware of the fact that star prospect Cooper Ingle might be there to take his spot if he doesn’t get his act together soon. At least, it’s clear that Naylor cares about getting better.
Hopefully, his work ethic and determination will help him achieve his best level and fulfill Vogt’s prediction about his untapped potential.
