The Cleveland Guardians need to keep an open mind regarding potential reinforcements. The team isn’t likely to make any big-time signings, meaning that it will have to settle for some of the players already in the organization.
Of course, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Guardians have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball, and there’s plenty of talent to choose from there.
With that in mind, Guardians Prospective took to social media to identify a top outfield prospect who is continuing his hot start in winter ball. Johnathan Rodriguez has emerged as a potential candidate to make the Opening Day roster.
The 26-year-old has been dominating in the LBPRC winter league. He recently drove in three runs and went 2-for-5 for Carolina. In his first five games, Rodriguez is 9-for-21 with three runs scored, one double, one triple, one home run, seven RBIs and one walk, posting a .429 average with a .455 OBP and a 1.169 OPS.
Cleveland #Guardians OF Johnathan Rodríguez remained red hot to start his season in the LBPRC driving in three runs tonight (2-5 3RBI) for his club Carolina vs Santurce.

The Guardians have no shortage of in-house options for their outfield next season. Even if they end up trading Steven Kwan, which might be a mistake, Rodriguez will be one of several candidates to embrace a bigger role.
Of course, that’s not to say that Cleveland shouldn’t make a couple of moves and bring in a veteran. But if Rodriguez and other young teammates continue to impress, the team should be fine for many years to come.
