The Cleveland Guardians continue to make moves. With Kai Correa leaving to become the New York Mets’ bench coach, Stephen Vogt had to find a suitable replacement.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, he’s already found his guy. The Guardians will add Andy McKay as the new field coordinator.
“Guardians hiring Mariners assistant GM Andy McKay as field coordinator, sources tell [The Athletic]. McKay will replace Kai Correa, who left to become Mets bench coach. Guardians still need to hire a bench coach to replace Craig Albernaz, who left to become Orioles manager,” Rosenthal posted on X.

McKay has an extensive background in professional baseball. He’s been both a coach and a member of the front office, so he can provide fresh input to this organization.
He got started as a coach in college before joining the Colorado Rockies as their peak performance coordinator for the minor leagues. Then, he joined the Seattle Mariners’ player development department. He was in Seattle for a decade, joining the team as soon as Jerry Dipoto took the reins as general manager.
McKay had been a part of the Mariners’ uniformed coaching staff for the past couple of years, serving as senior director of baseball development and major league coach. Then, in a bizarre turn of events, he got in a suit again to take his former job once his replacement left, and he was ultimately promoted to assistant general manager and vice president.
It’s safe to say that he’s more than qualified for the job. And since Stephen Vogt just lost his bench coach and associate manager Craig Albernaz, who left to be the manager of the Orioles, he might become his new No. 2. Whatever the case, it’s clear that this team is in great hands right now.
