The Cleveland Guardians beat the odds this season.
Despite their glaring offensive needs, they still scraped their way into the playoffs.
While things didn’t work out as hoped, it’s an encouraging sign for the future.
Of course, that’s contingent on the ability and willingness to build on this momentum and add talent to the roster.
According to Justin Lada, that will be the case, as the analyst predicted that the Guardians will make a bit of a splash this offseason.
“They’re going to do something worth noting to address their outfield this offseason. I’m not saying, ‘Oh, it’s just Lane Thomas.’ Obviously, I’m not saying it’s Kyle Tucker. I’m saying something maybe in between that. But I’m going to buy the idea that they’re going to improve the outfield and their offense somehow this offseason because the financials time is right for them,” Lada said.
The Guardians need help in the outfield, especially if they wind up trading Steven Kwan, as some rumors say.
They will have rookies George Valera and Chase DeLauter, as well as C.J. Kayfus, but as much as they should be part of the mix, they also need to bring in proven veterans who can hit.
Some believe they could reach out to first baseman Josh Naylor about a potential reunion, but given how much sense that might make for both parties, it sounds unlikely right now.
Whatever the case, the team has to do something.
It can’t bank all its hopes on young players emerging.
As much talent as they have, and as much as they could turn out to be All-Stars, that’s only wishful thinking at this point.
The Guardians have a strong foundation with star third baseman Jose Ramirez and a talented pitching staff.
Now, it’s about rounding things out with a couple of new faces.
