The Cleveland Guardians are trending in the right direction when it matters most, making a strong push to get the final AL Wild Card.
With that in mind, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report moved them up from No. 16 to No. 11 in his MLB power rankings.
“The [Texas] Rangers (3-0 vs. MIL, 2-1 @ NYM), Guardians (3-1 vs. KC, 3-0 vs. CWS) and [Seattle] Mariners (3-0 vs. STL, 3-0 vs. LAA) each came away with a pair of series victories last week. The biggest series of the final weekend of the season could end up being the Guardians hosting the Rangers from Sept. 26-28 if both teams stay hot and overtake [a Houston] Astros team that is 25-29 since the All-Star break,” Reuter wrote.
That’s encouraging, especially considering how close the Guardians are to the finish line.
They are playing their best baseball of the season, and though the offense remains lacking at times, they’re dominating on the mound.
After all they’ve been through this season, they also still have a chance to catch the Detroit Tigers at the top of the AL Central.
There have been multiple times this season when it has seemed like Cleveland would be better off throwing in the towel and focusing on next season.
But that’s not who the Guardians are, and the team will continue to push hard and compete for as long as they have a chance to make the playoffs.
They’re arguably the most resilient team in baseball, and that could pay off in a big way.
