The Cleveland Guardians received concerning news about top prospect Travis Bazzana after he left Tuesday’s Triple-A Columbus game with an injury.
The setback comes at a critical time as the 2025 season enters its final stretch and raises questions about the immediate future of Cleveland’s most promising young talent.
Bazzana, the No. 15 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and Cleveland’s top prospect, was removed in the fifth inning after going 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.
The 23-year-old had made a leaping grab in the fourth inning before experiencing discomfort in his left oblique, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic.
Travis Bazzana was pulled from last night’s game with Triple-A Columbus because… he had some left oblique soreness, per source.

The injury represents a troubling pattern for Bazzana, who missed nearly two months earlier this year with a right oblique strain.
Since his August 11 promotion to Columbus, he has posted a .225/.420/.438 slash line across 26 games with three doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBIs.
Oblique injuries can be particularly stubborn for baseball players, and Cleveland appears ready to take a cautious approach with their prized prospect.
With Columbus’s season ending soon, Bazzana will not participate in the Arizona Fall League and instead return to Australia for offseason training before reporting to Cleveland’s development complex.
His health status remains critical to the Guardians’ future plans.
Scouts continue praising his athleticism, plate discipline and offensive upside, but Cleveland’s immediate priority focuses on ensuring he enters 2026 fully healthy.
For Bazzana, the path forward emphasizes patience and long-term development over short-term opportunities.
