The Cleveland Guardians are ready to give one of their best prospects a chance.
With Joey Cantillo going back to the minors, they have called up someone to replace him.

Messick is the team’s No. 12 overall prospect and No. 3 pitching prospect.
He’s spent the entire season at Triple-A Columbus, dominating with a 29.1 percent strikeout rate.
He has a 3.47 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP in 98.2 innings in 20 starts.
He also has 119 strikeouts against 42 walks.
Messick has turned heads with his ability to fill the zone with strikes, and he doesn’t give up hard contact, with 44.8 percent of contact being ground balls.
The Guardians could use another reliable starter.
They lost Luis L. Ortiz due to a sports gambling investigation, and he’s not likely to be cleared to return this season.
They also traded Shane Bieber, who was projected to be a reinforcement for the second half of the season, to the Toronto Blue Jays.
They will have veteran John Means at some point as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, and he’d be an obvious candidate to take a spot in the rotation.
Then again, Messick will have several opportunities to show what he’s made of and earn a spot in the rotation as well.
