The Cleveland Guardians have always thrived in the minors.
They’ve usually had a great eye for talent, and while sometimes they might be patient to a fault, they’ve known how to develop their prospects more often than not.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to see their young pitchers among the strikeout leaders across the minors.
As pointed out by Guardians Prospective on X, they have three in the top 15 for the most strikeouts since the start of last season.
Lefty Parker Messick sits at No. 3 with 284, followed by lefty Matt Wilkinsion (No. 5, 276) and righty Austin Peterson (No. 13, 261).

The Guardians have a long history of finding and developing pitchers.
Messick is getting called up to the Guardians after they optioned Joey Cantillo back to Triple-A Columbus.
So, while he may not be able to keep adding up to that strikeout tally, he’s about to make his MLB debut.
They acquired another gem in Khal Stephen as a part of the Shane Bieber trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, and while he might still need a year or two before being ready to take the mound in the majors, he’s another elite prospect for an already stacked farm system.
Small-market teams need to do well in the minors, and the Guardians’ farm system continues to be the gift that keeps on giving.
