The Cleveland Guardians have struggled to replace Francisco Lindor ever since trading him to the New York Mets a few years ago, as the team has cycled through Amed Rosario, Brayan Rocchio, and Gabriel Arias since then with unfortunate results.
Cleveland’s offense has struggled mightily in 2025 and could desperately use a new franchise SS, which is why the Guardians were recently named the favorites to sign one intriguing prospect out of the Dominican Republic.
Guardians Prospective recently shared a video of shortstop prospect Justin Garcia out of Santo Domingo, DR, noting that the Guardians are currently favored to sign him even though he is ineligible to sign until January 15th, 2028.

Garcia flashed an impressive right-handed swing in the video shared in the tweet, and it will be interesting to see how well he can develop over the next few years before he can actually sign a major league contract.
Cleveland has a handful of intriguing offensive prospects that should be surfacing over the next few years, while a few of them will likely have a chance to take a crack at being the franchise shortstop, such as Angel Genao, Welbyn Francisca, and Gabriel Rodriguez.
For a franchise with a rich history at the shortstop position, it would mean a lot to find that next guy to make this fan base proud for a decade and beyond.
Not much information is available at this point about Garcia, but he’s certainly somebody to keep an eye on for a few years down the road.
