The Cleveland Guardians keep building for the future.
They made some big-time additions in the 2025 MLB Draft, and they can continue to brag about having one of the most promising and productive farm systems in the majors.
With that in mind, it’s not much of a surprise to see one of their younger dominate.
As shown by Guardians Prospective on X, 17-year-old catcher prospect Gustavo Baptista is turning plenty of heads at the Dominican Summer League.
He logged a couple of triples and went 2-for-5 with a couple of runs and three RBI on Monday vs. the Colorado Rockies.

Baptista has now reached base safely in all 25 games to start his pro-career.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, he’s now reached base safely in all 25 games to start his pro career.
He’s posted a wRC+ of 148 with an OBP of .482 and an OPS of .877.
Of course, it’s not unusual to see young men stand out from the rest of the pack early on, and he’s still got a long way to go before even being on the team’s radar, but it’s still nice to watch them thrive so much.
Catchers aren’t necessarily known for their ability to get on base and make contact, so this is a promising start to his career.
The Guardians know they need to make the most of their prospects to be able to keep up with other powerhouses.
They could look to add even more talent to their farm system at the trade deadline, as they’re not likely to trade young players to acquire someone who can help their case this season.
