Cleveland Guardians infield prospect Juan Brito has had to go through a lot this year.
First, he opened spring training as the heavy favorite to win the second base job in Cleveland and failed to secure the gig, getting sent to Triple-A before the start of the season.
Then, in late April, he underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb, missing almost two months.
He returned in June and played a handful of games, first some rehab contests in the Arizona Complex League and then in Triple-A Columbus.
Fate is such an unfair mistress sometimes, though: he recently pulled up lame while trying to reach base and, as it turns out, he has been officially placed on the IL again.
“The Cleveland Guardians Player Development System has announced the following moves for today: Place Juan Brito on the 7-Day IL in Columbus (left hamstring strain),” GuardsInsider posted on X.

The exact timeline of this injury remains a mystery, but it was severe enough to put him on the shelf for at least a few days.
It’s another tough break for a very talented kid who could probably be up by now if it weren’t for the injuries.
He has had another highly successful campaign in Columbus, putting up a .256/.357/.463 line in 24 games.
Now, Brito’s stint as the Guardians’ second baseman or part-time right fielder will have to wait at least a few weeks.
He is still the future for a team that has shown some reluctance to call up its top prospects in 2025.
