The Cleveland Guardians’ offense has ups and downs: sometimes it looks like an above-average, young unit with upside, and, over stretches, it looks like a Triple-A team. It’s essentially a roller-coaster ride that can be very frustrating.
Breakout performers such as Brayan Rocchio and Daniel Schneemann, both of whom are taking a step forward after years of struggles, are elevating the unit’s upside. Statistically, however, we can say that Chase DeLauter and Jose Ramirez are the most productive hitters in Cleveland this year.
“The Guardians’ leaders in every offensive statistic and how much they are ahead of the person in second: AB: José Ramírez – 129 (by 4), R: José Ramírez – 20 (by 5), H: Chase DeLauter – 34 (by 4), 2B: Chase DeLauter & José Ramírez – 8 (by 1), 3B: Chase DeLauter – 1 (by 1), HR: Chase DeLauter & José Ramírez – 6 (by 1), RBI: Chase DeLauter – 21 (by 2), BB: José Ramírez – 24 (by 7), SO: Kyle Manzardo – 35 (by 6), SB: José Ramírez – 13 (by 8), CS: Angel Martínez, Brayan Rocchio & Daniel Schneemann – 2 (by 1), AVG: Chase DeLauter – .304 (by .029), OBP: Chase DeLauter – .392 (by .048), SLG: Chase DeLauter – .554 (by .074), OPS: Chase DeLauter – .946 (by .160). As of May 4. After 35 Games,” Guardians analyst Cade Cracas said.

The stats don’t lie, and they show how DeLauter and Ramirez are leading almost every offensive category for the Guardians. The former is a hotshot rookie, finally enjoying some sustained health to show what he’s made of against elite competition, and the latter is a future Hall of Fame candidate who is trying to prove that even if he’s on the wrong side of 30, he remains elite.
DeLauter not only leads Cleveland players in hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and RBI, but he is also pacing the team in the most important rate stats: batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Ramirez, on the other hand, ranks first among Guardians in runs scored, doubles (tied with the exciting rookie), and stolen bases.
DeLauter is destined to fight for the AL Rookie of the Year award if health is on his side. He virtually has no offensive weakness, as he has more walks than strikeouts in addition to his obvious bat-to-ball skills and power.
Ramirez, on the other hand, is trying to achieve his first 40-40 season after coming awfully close in 2024 and racking up 30 long balls and 44 thefts last year. He currently has six home runs and 13 stolen bases, so he still has some time to pick up the pace in the power department.
Together, they are leading the Guardians’ offense and deserve a lot of credit for guiding the team to first place, tied with the Detroit Tigers through Sunday, after 35 games.
