The Cleveland Guardians were scheduled to play two games against the Seattle Mariners.
One, in the afternoon, was their original Cactus League game.
The other is their Spring Breakout showdown.
In the first, an 8-7 Guardians victory, starting center fielder Lane Thomas hit a three-run homer, and Daniel Schneemann had three hits with one double.
The star of the game, however, was right fielder Will Brennan.
There won’t be many games when Brennan carries the Guardians, not because he is a bad hitter, but because he is more of a complementary piece on the team.
This game was all about his contributions in the power department.
He hit two home runs to lift his spring slugging percentage to a solid .536.
“Cleveland Guardians OF Will Brennan hits his 2nd 2-run HR of the game in the 8th inning vs the Mariners! This HR traveled 382 feet and came off the bat at 105.0 mph,” Guardians Prospective wrote on X.

One of the home runs came against left-hander Gabe Spier, which is a positive development.
Brennan finished the 2024 season with a .697 OPS in 330 at-bats.
He was very solid against righties, with a .734 OPS.
Facing southpaws, however, he returned a .371 OPS.
If Brennan is going to earn more playing time, hitting lefties will be crucial.
He is expected to be the Guardians’ right fielder against righties, at least to open the year.
From there, everything else will depend on him.
