The Cleveland Guardians are looking for some extra outfield depth these days.
The players are starting to feel the wear and tear of the long season, and it’s never a bad idea to have a fresh, motivated player take a few at-bats here and there especially since they are already down a regular in Lane Thomas.
Additionally, even though trade acquisition Nolan Jones has flirted with a breakout, he isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire these days.
Enter Will Brennan.
Brennan was a big part of the Guardians’ outfield in 2022-24 but was optioned to Triple-A towards the end of the spring when Cleveland traded for Jones to replace him.
Could Brennan now replace Jones?
We don’t know how the playing time dynamics will shake out, but we do know that Brennan has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
After years of struggles in the majors, the Guardians are giving shortstop Brayan Rocchio a break and are sending him down.

There is no word on how much time Rocchio will spend in the minors, but he was sporting a .433 OPS after a .614 mark in 2024.
Rocchio is better than most shortstops defensively, but he hasn’t developed offensively and the Guardians need production.
They have a plethora of alternatives to plug at the position with more offensive upside than Rocchio.
As for Brennan, he was playing adequately at Columbus, with a 108 wRC+, and figures to have a role against right-handers.
After two straight losses against the Philadelphia Phillies, the organization is trying to reignite the spark.
