The Cleveland Guardians were in desperate need of a spark last season. They would have to endure a demanding schedule with 24 games in as many days in the second half of the campaign, and Stephen Vogt wanted some help for his starting rotation.
With that in mind, he turned to Parker Messick. The 25-year-old southpaw had turned plenty of heads at Triple-A Columbus, and he looked more than ready to take a bigger role.
Now, after a strong MLB debut, the young hurler is working around the clock to stay sharp and get even better ahead of next season. As shown in a video by Guardians Prospective on X, Messick has been putting in the work in the offseason.

Messick had a 2.72 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work last season. He made seven appearances, and his electric, hard-tossing style got the fans on their feet more often than not.
While it’s still early in his career, he proved that he can hold his own against the cream of the crop, and he should be a strong candidate to crack the starting rotation next season. He might even be ahead of fellow lefty Joey Cantillo in that regard.
The Guardians have one of the best coaching staffs in the game, and they’ve always hung their hat on their ability to develop hurlers. And after watching young stars like Parker Messick last season, the fans have more than enough reasons to feel excited about this team’s future.
