The Cleveland Guardians are off to a slow start at the plate and are just 3-6 to begin the 2025 season, with just a select few players pulling their own weight at the dish.
Gabriel Arias has done a solid job as the new second baseman with an .838 OPS through eight games, but it’s looking like it is only a matter of time before 2024 No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana will get called up to supplant him if he keeps raking like he has been to start his minor-league campaign.
Guardians Prospective shared on X that Bazzana is off to a torrid start in the minors and is now hitting .636.
“Cleveland #Guardians 22yr old (2B) prospect Travis Bazzana singles in the 5th inning for Akron and advances to second on the error. Bazzana is now hitting (7-11) .636 with a 1.692 OPS to start the season.”

After such an accomplished college career, there was no doubt that Bazzana wouldn’t spend too much time in the minors, but it’s looking like it could be even less time than originally thought.
Bazzana already looks ready to be called up at just 22 years old, and even though Arias is off to a nice start in his first year as the Guardians’ starting second baseman, Bazzana might force the front office’s hand soon.
If Cleveland keeps floundering offensively, the calls for Bazzana to come up will only continue to get louder and louder.
This is an interesting subplot to follow early on in the Guardians’ season, and the team certainly won’t want to call Bazzana up before he is ready or waste too much of his service time, but if the offense doesn’t start producing soon, Cleveland might have no choice.
